Dr Lynne Smith, Clinical Psychologist, Wollongong
Lynne is a Clinical Psychologist and psychotherapist who works with adults. She is trained in the assessment and treatment of acute psychological problems and mental disorders, such as mood and anxiety disorders, as well as long-standing issues and personality vulnerabilities. She works collaboratively with clients to help them to achieve their goals. Lynne takes an eclectic approach that utilises current evidence-based treatments including Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy and mindfulness-based strategies.
Lynne also works psychodynamically, and her approach is informed by object relations and attachment theory perspectives. This type of psychotherapy focuses on gaining a deeper understanding of the self and underlying psychological mechanisms, such as defenses and unconscious patterns of relating. Individuals who have long histories of mood and anxiety problems, or chronic relationship dissatisfaction may find this approach helpful. The benefits include increased psychological insight, psychological growth, improved relationships, and general improvements in well-being.
Lynne gained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New South Wales and her Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology and Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) degrees from the University of Wollongong. She is a registered psychologist in Australia, a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association, and a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the College of Clinical Psychologists. Lynne also completed a one-year Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course at the Sydney Institute of Psychoanalysis. She continues to engage in regular professional supervision and professional development.
